Privacy Policy
OPTIONS Sexual Health Association is committed to safeguarding the personal information entrusted to us by our clients, donors, volunteers, employees and other stakeholders in accordance with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act and other applicable laws. This policy outlines the principles and practices we follow in protecting your personal information.
Personal Information
Personal information means any information about an individual that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information can include an individual's name, home address and phone number, age, sex, marital or family status, as well as an individual' s opinions or belief's. Exceptions: business contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories, are not considered personal information.
We consider donor and volunteer information always to be personal information, and do not disclose information about donors or volunteers without consent.
Consent
We ask for consent to collect, use or disclose client personal information, except in specific circumstances where collection, use or disclosure without consent is authorized or required by law. We may assume your consent in cases where you volunteer information for an obvious purpose.
In cases where the information we collected was prior to January 1, 2004 , we assume your consent to our use, and where applicable, disclosure for the purpose for which the information was collected.
You may withdraw your consent to use and disclosure of personal information at any time, unless their personal information is necessary for us to fulfill our legal obligations. We will respect your decision, but we may not be able to provide you with certain products and services if we do not have the necessary personal information.
We collect, use or disclose personal information without consent only as authorized by law. For example, in an emergency that threatens life, health or safety, or when the personal information is from a public telephone directory.
Use and Disclosure
We use and disclose personal information only for the purposes for which the information was collected, except as authorized by law.
If we wish to use or disclose your personal information for any new business purpose, we will ask for you consent.
Safeguards
We make every reasonable effort to ensure that information is accurate and complete. We rely on you to notify us if there is a change to your personal information. If you are aware of an error in our information about you, please let us know and we will correct it on request where ever possible.
We protect personal information in a manner appropriate for the sensitivity of the information. We make every reasonable effort to prevent any loss, misuse, disclosure or modification of personal information, as well as any unauthorized access to personal information.
We use appropriate security measures when destroying personal information, including shredding paper records and permanently deleting electronic records.
We retain personal information only as long as is reasonable to fulfill the purposes for which the information was collected or for legal or business purposes.
Access to Personal Information
You have a right of access to your personal information in a record that is in our custody.
You may make a request for access to your personal information by writing to our Privacy Officer at the address below. You must provide sufficient information in your request to allow us to identify the information you are seeking.
You may also request a correction of an error or omission in our personal information.
We will respond to your request within 45 calendar days.
OPTIONS Website
Donations made through the OPTIONS website are processed by CanadaHelps.org. The information gathered through the website is collected to the OPTIONS database, and may be used for future communications with OPTIONS members consistent with the purposes outlined above. Please visit CanadaHelps.org for additional information on their privacy and security practices. OPTIONS does not maintain a secure web interface at any other point on this site.
OPTIONS does not collect or distribute the e-mail addresses of visitors to our web page. OPTIONS does collect aggregate information on which pages visitors access or visit, and information volunteered by the visitor, such as survey information and/or site registrations. The information we collect is used to improve the content of our Web page, and is not shared with other organizations for commercial purposes.
