Sexuality and Self-esteem Sessions (SASS)
This program was designed to help young women between the ages of 14 and 17, build positive social relationship skills. Individuals learn modeled behaviour from their parents, friends, and of course the media. Often, these messages perpetuate stereotypical behaviours. SASS is about breaking these stereotypes and educating young women with the tools to have successful relationships with their family, friends, and partners.
The program is geared towards young females who could be defined as “at-risk†for STI’s, substance abuse, etc. But the camp works equally well, and is just as useful, for any young woman. SASS is facilitated by peers and as such, we try to learn as much from them as they can learn from us. By removing this “authority-subordinate†role, facilitators and participants can work together to improve their relationship and sexual health skills. The program is fun, it is dynamic, and that is why the young women involved enjoy it.
This program will not be available in 2009. For more information please contact education@optionssexualhealth.ca
