Sexual Disorder:

Conditions that make sexual arousal or response difficult or impossible with a consenting partner.

What is ‘Premature Ejaculation’?

Rapid (Premature) Ejaculation (RE) is a condition in men characterized by persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before, on, or shortly after penetration and before the person wishes it.

What causes Rapid Ejaculation?

Causes of rapid ejaculation are rarely physical. Some infections of the urethra and prostate, neglected gonorrhea, and overly tight foreskin have been considered as possible physical causes. However, it’s more common that the affected man has not learned to recognize the sensory feedback or plateau phase of the sexual response cycle that indicates ejaculation is imminent. This is most prominent among men who have taught themselves to ignore this sensory feedback. Another contributing factor to RE is anxiety.

How can you treat Rapid Ejaculation?

Treatments of RE may include psychological approaches aimed at reducing anxiety, special techniques to improve ejaculatory control (such as the “squeeze” technique), and drug therapy that delay ejaculation, thereby improving sexual satisfaction for him and his partner.

How common is Rapid Ejaculation?

About 30% of men are reported to be rapid ejaculators.

What is ‘Male Orgasmic Disorder’?

Male Orgasmic Disorder is the persistent or recurrent involuntary delay in orgasm and ejaculation or the inability of the man to have an orgasm, both during sexual intercourse and masturbation. It has also been referred to as Ejaculatory Delay or Retarded Ejaculation in the past.

What causes Male Orgasmic Disorder?

The cause of Male Orgasmic Disorder is rarely physical and rather is associated with a past traumatic sexual experience, strict religious upbringing, over control, or lack of trust.

Most often, psychological exploration and counselling is the indicated treatment for the disorder. However, should the cause be physical it is crucial that the problem be assessed (whether or not it is related to a previous condition or some form of substance abuse) and properly addressed (treating the prior condition if it is treatable, or treating the substance abuse).

How common is Male Orgasmic Disorder?

About 8% of men are reported to have male orgasmic disorder.

What is ‘Erectile Dysfunction’?

Erectile Dysfunction (ED or what was referred to as impotence) is the persistent or recurrent inability in men to attain an erection or to maintain an erection until completion of sexual activity.

What can cause Erectile Dysfunction?

There can be many contributing factors to ED including; drugs, alcohol, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, HIV, other diseases, and spinal cord lesions.

Approximately one-third of all ED cases are psychological, one-third physical, and the remaining third have a mix of both causes.

How can you treat Erectile Dysfunction?

The most common treatment for ED is through oral medications including Viagraâ„¢, Levitraâ„¢, or Cialisâ„¢. If the cause for ED is psychological then one should consult a sex therapist or a counsellor who specializes in sexuality.

How common is Erectile Dysfunction?

About 11% of males between 18-50 year olds have erectile dysfunction. However, as males age, erectile dysfunction becomes more common.

What is ‘Male Sexual Desire Disorder’?

Male Sexual Desire Disorder is the persistent loss of desire that disrupts sexual relationships. It is characterized by diminished sexual attraction, decreased sexual activity, few or no sexual dreams or fantasies, and diminished attention to erotic material by one or both partners. It is less common in men than women.

What causes Male Sexual Desire Disorder?

Sexual desire in men can be inhibited by many physical and psychological factors, however, it is generally associated with testosterone deficiency. Symptoms of low testosterone include loss of facial and body hair, decrease in lean muscle mass, fatigue, loss of energy, and erectile dysfunction (ED).

How can you treat Male Sexual Desire Disorder?

In treating Male Sexual Desire Disorder, it is important to determine if there are any relationship, situational, or psychological issues that may be contributing to the loss of desire. A physician will also check for physical problems including lack of testosterone.

How common is Male Sexual Desire Disorder?

Studies indicate that around 14% of men have sexual desire disorder.
